CDS FAQs

Consumer Directed Services allows people with disabilities the opportunity to hire their own personal care attendant (cannot be a spouse) to help them with personal care and daily activities. Consumers remain in their own homes and direct their own care.

CDS provides the following services:

  • Bathing
  • Dressing/Grooming
  • Housekeeping
  • Laundry
  • Mobility/Transfer
  • Shopping/Errands
  • Toileting

Consumers may or may not qualify for all of these services.  Consumers will be assigned a CDS specialist, who can offer additional resources to help meet their needs.

Participant must:

  • Have Missouri Medicaid
  • Be 18 or older
  • Be able to direct their own care
  • Be mentally or physically disabled

Since the CDS program is funded by MO Healthnet, Medicaid pays the attendant for verified and approved services.

On My Own, Inc. serves Bates, Cedar, Hickory, St. Clair and Vernon Counties. However, if you live outside of these counties, you could still receive CDS through another Center for Independent Living.
